What media courses cover

Courses can include journalism, mass communication, film, video editing, and digital media. Some are degrees and some are diplomas.

Skills matter

Employers look at what you can do: write, shoot, edit or present. Build a small portfolio while you study.

Choose with care

Check the faculty, equipment, internships and approval. Ask to see work from earlier students.

Start now

Begin with a blog, a short video or a podcast. Practical work is the best preparation.

Where media graduates work

Newsrooms, digital media, advertising, public relations, video production and social media teams hire media graduates.

Tools to learn

Learn basic editing for video and audio and how to write clearly. Free tools are enough to start.

Ethics and accuracy

Good media work depends on checking facts and being fair. Practise this from day one.

Quick tip

Check the last date of admission early so you are never in a rush.

Quick checklist

  • Decide: writing, video, or both
  • Check course approval
  • Start a small blog or video
  • Ask about internships
  • Collect samples of your work

Before you pay anything

  • Paying before you have read the official notice for your programme.
  • Choosing only on the lowest fee or the biggest name, without checking approval and fit.
  • Leaving documents and forms to the last date.
  • Not keeping receipts, messages and notices in one safe place.
